I served in the militia at the time of the Korean War and a squadron of LS Horse trained with us at Camp Sussex in NB before going to Korea.
Our RSM , who is now deceased, was with the regiment in Italy and Holland in WW II. We have an active association of ex Hussars totalling about 800 members from across Canada and there are about 3 reunions each year. In 1998 we celebrated our 150th year.
I was in B Squadron and my colonel was Otty Corbet from Sussex.
In later years the Regiment was Active force under the name of 8th Canadian ( Princess Louise's) Hussars with three squadrons of militia. Moncton -A; Sussex:-B Sackville -C and Hampton-HQ .
In 1998 the regiment reverted back to militia status.
"
A Royal Filly" was the original mascot of th 8th New Brunswick ( (Princess
Louise's) Hussars. She
earned her "Battle Honours". She was brought back to
Canada and her descendants have been
our
official mascot.
All, or course named "Princess Louise". The original horse is
buried near Sussex NB
with a special memorial tablet.
