PROBUS TWINNING
Following an e-mail circulation of Probus Clubs in Ontario and British Columbia in November 2000, the Ottawa/Rideau Valley Probus Club is very pleased to report a successful exchange with Bracebridge, Ontario, Probus Club. We circulate this information in the hope that other Clubs might be interested in similar exchanges.
We arranged with a contact person, in Bracebridge, to determine how many of their members would be interested in visiting Ottawa at Tulip Festival Time and also to attend our Regional Lunch. Their response was enthusiastic and six couples were hosted for three nights in the homes of our members. We toured them around the sights of Ottawa and thoroughly enjoyed each others company.
A return visit was made to Bracebridge this October to enjoy their Fall colours, a marvelous cruise on Lake Muskoka and a lunch with their Probus members. We learned a great deal about their environment and lifestyle in cottage country and we trust that they also gained a lot from visiting the National Capital. Several of our members have struck up lasting friendships with our visitors and return trips have been made outside the Probus organized exchange.
From these exchanges it can be seen that there is both an considerable educational bonus and social benefit to be achieved.
We suggest that your Club may be interested in developing a similar exchange with our, or another, Probus Club. The visit to Bracebridge involved a drive of some four hours. We are now looking into the possibility of another exchange with a similar club within Ontario. Further consideration is being given to extending our horizons at a later date..
We hope that this concept of twinning/hosting will be shared with your Club members and we will look forward to hearing from you subsequently.
